The English Chamber Theatre was formed in 1985 to make relatively small theatre pieces available for Festival Performances, Tours (both in the UK and abroad), Galas, Sunday Night Performances and Limited Theatre Seasons.
It is a new concept in theatre: simple in execution, with concentration on text and performance, rather than elaborate sets, costumes and effects. Often biographical in content, it always demands the highest standards of acting. Many of our most distinguished actors have performed in ECT productions.
ECT now has twenty productions on its list -and these include:
English Chamber Theatre performances have been given at festivals and galas in theatres throughout the UK, including Stratford upon Avon and the West End. There have been British Council Tours, visiting Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Egypt, Jordan and Germany.
In 1994 ECT went to Brussels. In 1995 it visited Elsinore.
Productions have been shown on the QE2 and there have been three visits to the Bermuda festival. There have been many performances in the States, including the Roosevelt Library, the Morgan Library in New York, and a sell-out season in Los Angeles.
The English Chamber Companies are happy to take part in Workshops and Open Rehearsals.
The English Chamber Theatre has given many gala performances to raise money for various charities, and this forms an important part of its work.
New work on a special theme can always be put in on request.
