The English Chamber Theatre was formed in 1985 to make relatively small theatre pieces available for Festival Performances, Tours (both in the UK and abroad) Galas, Single performances and Limited Theatre Seasons.

It is a new concept in theatre, simple in execution, with concentration on the text and performance, rather than elaborate sets, costumes and effects! This has meant that all the shows are adaptable and suitable for performance in almost any venue.

Productions have been shown on the QE2 and in Cathedrals and Castles. There have been performances in the Morgan Library and the Roosevelt Library – and in the American Embassy in London.

ECT has toured in theatres throughout the UK, including Stratford upon Avon and the West End - recently with sell-out performance at the Jermyn Street Theatre, London. Also a season at the Doolittle Theatre, Los Angeles.

There have been British Council Tours to Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Spain, Portugal and Mexico.

Three productions toured to the Hong Kong Festival and then across Australia from Perth to Sydney.

The shows divide into two categories - biographical dramas and literary entertainments. Because of the biographical content and the small casts, these productions have always demanded the highest standards of acting.

Many of our most distinguished actors have performed in ECT productions.
